Sri Lanka suspends its small scale export of rice to regulate price

Sri Lanka Ministry of Trade says that the export of rice has been suspended until the next bounty harves is yielded. Sri Lanka recently had a surplus of rice stocks and they were exported in minor scale.

Accordingly, the country will not export rice until the first quarter of 2013 in which the Maha harvest is yielded.

The decision to suspend exports has been taken under the instructions of the President Mahinda Rajapaksa, says the Ministry of Trade.

The Ministry aims a price regulation in the local market with the suspension of exportation.

Sri Lanka is expecting decline in harvest in the Yala season due to drought.
