US Embassy of Sri Lanka said in a statement that the recent testimony of US Ambassador-designate to Sri Lanka Michele J. Sison is in complete accordance with U.S. policy as well as previous statements made by U.S. Officials on Sri Lanka.
The statement further said that Sison reflected the issues discussed during Secretary Clinton’s meeting with Minister of External Affairs G. L. Peiris last month in Washington.
It added that testimony also noted the need for a broad range of partnerships between the United States and Sri Lanka.
Sison testified before the Senate Foreign Relations Committee as part of her confirmation process as nominee for Ambassador to Sri Lanka and Maldives and called on Sri Lanka to further demilitarize the north, hold provincial council elections in the north and also establish a mechanisms to deal with outstanding human rights issues.
