Indian based Resolve Marine Group says that the company has handled removal of 10 vessels sunk in an around Kankesanthurai harbor in the Northern Province Jaffna peninsula of Sri Lanka.
The wreckage obstructed safe navigation in the area and effectively prevented commercial activity in the port.
These ships were sunk in the period of war between Sri Lanka government and the Tamil rebels before 2009.
India assists Sri Lanka to rehabilitate the Kankesanthurai harbor. The wreck removal work in Kankesanthurai is being done as a fully grant-funded project for which a sum of SLR 2.18 billion ($19 million) is being made available by India.
