Sri Lanka to hold elections for the Northern Provincial Council before end of 2012

Sri Lanka's The Divaina Sunday newspaper reported quoting reliable sources of the government that the government had decided to hold the election for the Northern Provincial Council before the end of 2012.

The government is expected to direct the Election commissioner within the coming couple of weeks to prepare the necessary voters' lists.

President Mahinda Rajapaksa has already directed the authorities to complete de-mining in the entire Northern Province before the end of the year to go for the election.

The newspaper further reported that the government also intended to hold elections of the Eastern Provincial council and one of the other Provincial councils of the political south together.
