Close study of the reports about the discussions between President Maithripala Sirisena and Mahinda Rajapaksha indicate Maithri taking the advantage of the situation.
Mahinda faction spokesmen Kumar Welgama and Dallus Alahapperuma said they were not happy about the discussion. Wimal Weerawansa connected Lanka C News website reported the discussions were a failure.
Meanwhile, the Maithri faction spokesman Duminda Disanayaka said that the discussions were successful and the discussion was not between two factions but between the Chairman and Adviser.
The demands of the former President were not fully addressed by the President. Instead, he said that naming Mahinda as the Prime Minister at the general election may cause loss of minority votes.
He has also declined a demand from the Mahinda faction regarding Financial Crimes Investigation Division. Rajapaksha family and former Ministers are dreaded by this police unit and want it to be dissolved arguing it has been politicized.
The President has said that anyone who thinks of injustice had taken place could seek the justice from judiciary.
Sources close to Maithri faction of Sri Lanka Freedom Party (SLFP) said that rebel MPs and corrupt elements of Mahinda faction might not get nomination from the party.
Maithri has urged Mahinda faction to maintain party unity and the pro-Mahinda rally to be held today is likely to be disaster for the SLFPs who attend it.
Mahinda came late for the discussion and did not speak to media as usual after the dialogue,
