Sources from Kurunegala say that the rally which is being organized in the town to promote former President Mahinda Rajapaksha as the Prime Minister candidate of upcoming general election is not going well.
The chief organizer of the rally MP T.B. Ekanayaka has not received much support from the other district leaders of the SLFP.
President Maithripala Sirisena recently appointed Chief Minister Dayasiri Jayasekara as the organizer of Bingiriya electorate. He was one of the leading supporters of Mahinda. MP Johnston Fernando has been arrested for a fraud in Lanka Sathosa, an establishment which was under his Ministry during the time of the Rajapaksha regime.
Meanwhile, 27 suspects including leading figures of Mahinda campaign are summoned to Colombo Magistrate Court tomorrow to show cause for holding an illegal protest before the Bribery or Corruption Commission.
Provincial Councillor Udaya Gammanpila has already announced he would not participate in the rally due to the court case.
